MCMS 512 Strategic Communication and Management In line with Education 5.0, this module seeks to equip students with practical skills whereby they apply strategic communication and management solutions to an organisation. Using strategic thinking, qualitative research, and marketing data, this module will require the student to identify, research, engage and provide real solutions to clients.
MCMS 513 Digital Media Cultures This module offers a critical exploration of the evolution and societal impact of digital media within the Master's in Communication and Media Studies program. It examines how digital technologies reshape communication, economics, politics, and culture, with a particular focus on developing and African contexts. Key themes include the digital divide, cultural imperialism, democracy and governance, intellectual property, cybercrime, and the role of digital media in development, the environment, and globalization. The module aims to equip students with the analytical tools to assess digital media's influence on identity, regulation, industry, and social life. Students will engage through seminars, scenario-based learning, and discussions. Assessment is based on a seminar presentation, a scenario exercise, a written assignment, and a final examination.
MCMS 514 Health and Communication This course has been designed to provide students with a critical understanding of how to use communication (traditional mass media, digital social media, and interpersonal/participatory communication) to promote and influence desirable health behaviours, attitudes and outcomes. This course will cover the original philosophical foundation of health behavior change communication (persuasion and media effects tradition). It also uses the various theories of change as lenses through which to effect successful and desirable behaviours. Using empirical cases from fieldwork, students are given time to design health communication strategies as well as how strategies are evaluated to measure success or failure.
MCMS570 Dissertation The module equips learners with the skills of carrying out the actual research and writing a research project through data collection. The students are given an opportunity to research on a topic of their choice. This module derives support from other fundamental modules in the degree programme with the guidance of an experienced faculty member.

MMPD 511 Applied Research Methods in Development Communication Module equips students with participatory research methods that value indigenous communities as co- researchers and participants in research projects that impact participating communities.
MMPD 514 Digital Technologies in Development Communication Digital Technology and Development: Message Design and Evaluation (MMPD514) is a core module that explores the intersection of digital technology, communication strategies, and audience engagement. This module delves into the principles of creating and assessing effective messages in the digital age, focusing on understanding how various platforms and tools can be leveraged to drive impactful communication outcomes. Students will learn to analyze, design, and evaluate messages across different digital media channels, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the complex landscape of contemporary media environments.
MMPD 515 Audience Mapping for Digital Communication The module will focus on the different research tools used to ascertain the different target project audience/ beneficiaries. It will focus on the 3w's of determining audience type which are who, what and where. It allows for identification of project influencers and those who benefit which helps understand the potential impact of the project actions. The module will focus on how people create agreed realities based on a certain phenomenon, universal truths and symbols. In changing these realities or rewriting the narratives the course will highlight how people are persuaded, what they consider credible sources, emotional Appeals and Logical information
MMPD 518 Critical Theories and Paradigms in Development Communication This module explores theories and paradigms in development communication. Students  are equipped  with conceptual and theoretical skills  to interrogate  complex  and evolving frameworks  which complexly and dynamically,  inform development trajectories in ,the  global South and the global North.
