 HVPA402  Artistic Director  This practice-led module explores the role of The Artist-Director as an autonomous creator in contemporary film, TV, and radio. It focuses on developing a personal artistic vision and the practical skills to execute self-directed projects from short films and audio features to serialized digital content (e.g., TikTok, web series). Students will examine the confluence of auteur theory, digital platform strategy, micro-budget producing, and personal branding. The module is centered on praxis, combining critical analysis with hands-on project development. Learning and Teaching will be delivered through seminars, workshops, and project supervision. Assessment will be based on a project pitch, a critical reflection, the creation of an original short-form work.
 HPVA404  Arts Journalism  This course explores the dynamic field of arts journalism, equipping students with the skills to critically engage with arts and articulate their insights through writing. It covers various forms of arts writing, including album reviews, artist profiles, and concert coverage. By the end of the course, students will produce a portfolio of written work and be prepared to enter the world of arts journalism with confidence.
 HVPA405  Arts Entrepreneurship  In this module students are exposed to the fine arts as business. The seminar approach is intended to expose students to the concept of developing a business plan, seeking financial assistance and managing an arts business enterprise. The module is characterized by guest artists running the arts as business for the students’ appreciation of the challenges and successes the arts encounter. It is expected that by the time students graduate, they should be in a position to start or should have started their own small enterprise.
HVPA470 Dissertation The module equips learners with the skills of carrying out the actual research and writing a research project through data collection. The students are given an opportunity to research on a topic of their choice. This module derives support from other fundamental modules in the degree programme with the guidance of an experienced faculty member.

PDMCS 405 Public Relations The public relations module is in line with the University of Zimbabwe’s 2019 – 2025 strategy that seeks to take students on a transformative pathway to the delivery of goods and services towards industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe. Students will get to understand why PR as a communication tool is important and how it started in the USA. This will be done by looking at the 4 PR models by Grunig and Hunt. The course will also cover PR Ethics, PR Research – specifically looking at the public relations strategy. Also to be covered are social media and emerging trends relative to the pervasiveness of social media. The students will also be introduced to publics/audiences, situations, and processes typical of public relations content creation and marketing covering blogs, events, press releases, speeches, and social media content.
PDMCS 406 Media Economics and Marketing        This is a critical course that helps students with knowledge of the economics of media institutions, marketing, advertising, and how to effectively run a competitive media house in environments of competition.

Newswriting and Reporting

News writing and reporting is a practical module that empowers students with professional knowledge and skills on journalism. It trains students to be journalists who can fit into a converged newsroom. The module examines the basic aspects of news, types of news, news values structure of news and journalistic news presentation formats. Students who complete this module are expected to demonstrate key skills in journalism and should be in a position to write hard news stories and have an appreciation of feature stories. The students are expected to also be equipped with news gathering skills and possess good interviewing techniques. They are also expected to be empowered with news writing skills and be able to write individual stories.
PDMCS 408 Newspaper Layout, Audio & Visuals This course is designed for postgraduate students without a journalism background, aiming to provide them with essential skills in newspaper/Magazine layout, audio, and visuals. The course emphasizes hands-on learning to equip students with the knowledge and practical abilities required to produce visually engaging and multimedia-rich content for newspapers and all broadcasting entities.
PDMCS 409 Dissertation The module equips learners with the skills of carrying out the actual research and writing a research project through data collection.
