HPRM102 Marketing Principles 1 The module introduces students to marketing a critical element of any business as businesses exist to make themselves and their products acceptable in the market. This is a very critical module as knowledge from the module is essential in the development of both marketing and business strategies. Enterprise Development students need this knowledge and skills if they are to launch and sustainably manage business enterprises. 
BMI102 Programming Fundamentals  This is a practical course which focuses on the design and implementation of programming languages. From the design point of view, students will study language features as tools for expressing algorithms. From the implementation point of view, students will study compilers, interpreters, and virtual machines so as to map those features efficiently onto modern computer hardware
 IDBS101  Information and Digital Skills  The module is designed for all first-year undergraduate students. The module shall empower students to have knowledge of various information sources, search, retrieve, evaluate, process, and apply information resources in university learning using appropriate technology. The students shall learn and demonstrate how to apply effective search strategies in different technological environments and electronic resources. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ethical and fair use of information resources (plagiarism and referencing). Finally, the students will learn how to integrate 21st-century technologies, eResources and eLearning system into university learning and business.

This module explores the processes of language acquisition and development, with a focus on first and second language learning. It examines linguistic structures, cognitive processes, and sociocultural factors influencing language learning. Additionally, the module addresses the principles and practices of inter-cultural communication, highlighting how culture affects language use, communication styles, and understanding across diverse cultural contexts. Students will develop practical skills for effective communication in multicultural environments, including strategies for overcoming language barriers and fostering intercultural competence in professional and social settings.
HPRM103 Marketing Principles 11 This module explores the basic concepts of marketing such as marketing management philosophies, social responsibility and ethics, marketing environment, marketing planning, marketing information and marketing research, market segmentation, positioning, and targeting, and consumer and organisational buying behaviour.  Thus, by the end of the module students will be able to put together the first half of the components of an operational or strategic marketing plan such as the current marketing situation, identification of the target market and analysis of its behaviour, and definition of marketing objectives.
BMI101 Introduction to Business Informatics The aim of this module is to introduce students to the   business informatics fundamentals. It focuses on using business administration models and descriptions, as well as techniques and procedures from the area of computer science. Students will be able to synthesize business aspects with computer learning.
BMI103 Data Structures and Algorithms This course introduces students to new types of data structures. Students will also learn how to design new algorithms for each new data structure studied, create and perform simple operations on graph data structures, describe and implement common algorithms for working with advanced data structures and recognize which data structure is the best to use to solve a particular problem.

This is a four-year course broken down into four parts. The course gives brief but succinct coverage of student development theories and how they inform teaching and learning at tertiary education institutions. These theories include William Perry’s Student Development Schemer, P. Chickering, J. Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg’s student development theories. The Module then introduces students to concepts, programmes and activities that foster student quotients; i.e., IQ (Intelligent Quotient), SQ (Social Quotient), AQ (Adversity Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), MQ (Money Quotient or entrepreneurial capability), etc.

Business Statistics

The modules enable students to acquire skills required to analyse quantitative data and use the findings to inform managerial decisions.  In today’s world managers need to make evidence-based decisions.
BMI201 Programming 11 This module introduces students to intermediate programming concepts and techniques. It covers structured and object-oriented programming, algorithm design, debugging, and code optimization. Students gain hands-on experience in developing software solutions, implementing data structures, and applying programming logic to solve real-world problems. By the end of the module, students will be able to write efficient, well-structured code and develop functional applications independently.
BMI203 Artificial Intelligence   

This course offers an introduction to Deep Artificial Neural Networks (i.e. “Deep Learning”). With focus on both theory and practice, models for various applications are covered, how they are trained and tested, and how they can be deployed in real world applications.

During the attachment year, students will be launched for attachment to enable understanding of the importance of multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary partnerships in research and innovation; Appreciation of the different tools, software packages, methods and approaches in data analysis and be able to draw conclusion; and Capacitation of skills to implement context-specific ‘hands-on’ research activities under targeted conditions (e.g. archival, field, laboratory, industrial, civil and commercial conditions).
HPRM201 Understanding Consumers Students should have an understanding of how customers behave when purchasing.  In particular students must be able to segment customers and then be able to target them with specific offerings of goods and services.  Students will acquire knowledge and competences in understanding the motivations of customers. 
CCLSBE201 Critical Consciousness and Life Skills This module equips all students who study at the University of Zimbabwe with basic knowledge about the nation’s history, strategic interests, its role in the region, its position in the international arena and its international relations. The module provides basic knowledge about Zimbabwe’s pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history. For contemporary issues, it touches on basic issues such as demography, economics, politics and foreign policy. The thinking behind this module is that as our students proceed with their university education and later join the labour market, engage in entrepreneurial activities and interact with others both within and outside Zimbabwe, they should be conversant with Zimbabwean history in order to appreciate contemporary issues and debates. This helps foster in them a sense of national consciousness and patriotism critical in their contribution to sustainable development and the maintenance of peace and security in Zimbabwe.

HASTS112 Regression Analysis and Analysis of Variance This module aims to build both an understanding and facility with the ideas and methods of regression for both observational and experimental data. Students will develop competency in choosing the right set of data analysis tools depending on the nature of data along with their limitations.
HASTS211 Time Series Analysis and Econometrics The module focuses on model building for time series data in time domain. This module is to provide students with a solid understanding of some fundamental concepts in time series econometrics and to outline a few common difficulties that arise. Students will have obtained the basic knowledge for conducting empirical research on related economics issues.
HPRM303 Digital and Social Media Marketing This module equips students with digital marketing competencies to enable organisation to integrate technology into marketing.  This enables organisation to become much more efficient in reaching out to stakeholders universally and optimising business models
HSCM302 Electronic Procurement and Smart Logistics The module explores the integration of technology within the supply chain function.  Students will be capacitated to manage supply chain activities using digital technologies.
 BM1202  Machine Learning Fundamentals  Machine learning as a module is universal, with applications bridging from business intelligence to homeland security. The module will familiarize students with a broad knowledge of models and algorithms for machine learning as well as preparing students for research and industry application of machine learning techniques. It in this context that the students will be able to execute economic calculations using computer soft wares.
 RISBE301  Research and Innovation Skills  This module is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities required for conducting rigorous research and fostering innovation. It covers the research process from problem identification to data collection, analysis, and reporting, while emphasizing creative and innovative approaches to solving real-world challenges.  HPRM305 Marketing Research   The module provides Enterprise Development students with the skills to carry out informative research on the markets in which they intend to operate or they are operating in. This module is the backbone of the programme for marketing research facilitates feasibility studies, business planning and assessing the needs of a market (business opportunity analysis).
 BEM401  Strategic Management 1  The Strategic Management module equips students with skills and knowledge to develop competitive strategies that allow enterprises to not only survive but pose challenges to large established businesses. This is crucial for national economic growth and the indigenisation drive. Students in enterprise development require such skills for sustainably managing new enterprises.
BED402 Innovation Management The module provides students with basic concepts and awareness in technological innovation and an understanding of how to protect their intellectual property (IP). This is a major challenge faced by many new enterprises as they often lose their innovations to unscrupulous stakeholders (financiers, competitors, employees, partners, etc.). This module is relevant to Enterprise Development students who are going to be scanning the environment for unfulfilled needs and are most likely going to come up with innovations currently not in the market.

 HPRM304  Marketing Management II  This is module focuses on the marketing mix (product and services, pricing strategy, promotion and place. management; performance marketing).  Students are expected to have skills and competences to develop marketing plans.
BMI301 Data Warehousing & Mining The aim of this module is to impart the knowledge on how to implement classical models and algorithms in data warehousing and data mining and to characterize the kinds of patterns that can be discovered. Students will learn how to design a data warehouse. This will provide hands-on experience on modelling and implementing a data warehouse. In addition, the students will learn data mining techniques; how they work and how to use them. Also, the students will have hands-on experience using data mining toolkits, including how to visualise and interpret the results.
BEM203 Business Environment This module introduces students to the dynamic external and internal factors that influence business operations. It explores how economic, political, legal, social, technological, and cultural environments shape organizational strategies and decision-making. Students will gain an understanding of the interactions between businesses and their environments, including global and local market trends, regulatory frameworks, and socio-economic conditions. The module also emphasizes strategic adaptation, ethical considerations, and sustainable practices, preparing students to analyze and respond effectively to opportunities and challenges in the contemporary business world.
BMI401 Design & Analysis of Algorithms The module introduces students to the design of computer algorithms, as well as analysis of sophisticated algorithms. At the end of the module, the students will have acquired knowledge on what it means for the algorithm designer, and strategies for coping with computationally intractable problems.
HASTS215 Multivariate Analysis The course focuses on analysis of two or more variables. Properties; sampling distribution of sample mean and sample covariance matrix; Wishart distribution. Transformations to near normality; testing for normality. Hotelling’s T2 distributions and likelihood ratio test; comparison with one-dimensional case; confidence regions and simultaneous comparisons of component means; Bonferroni method of multiple comparisons. Comparing mean vectors from two populations; comparisons of several multivariate population mean (one-way MANOVA); simultaneous confidence intervals for treatment effects; profile analysis; ideas of two-way MANOVA. Multivariate linear regression Review of eigenvalues and eigenvectors; spectral decomposition of symmetric matrix. Factor Analysis—exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis; canonical correlation analysis; discrimination and classification; discriminant analysis, and cluster analysis.  Throughout the course students will be exposed to software associated with these analyses such as SPSS, AMOS and STATA.
BMI460 Research Project This is a research project of about 10000 words based on an agreed topic, preferably of public relations significance, written over two semesters. A student initially writes and submits a research project proposal of about 3000 words that, if approved, is subsequently implemented.  Thereafter, each student is assigned an academic supervisor to guide her in the implementation of the research proposal and writing up of the research project.

Students will conduct practicals and develop expertise in Food preparation and catering in institutions which include hospitals, universities, colleges, barracks, prisons and schools

CAHC 105 Culinary Commodities Stores and Management Reliable and affordable supplies of commodities are critical for the success of any particular organization as it affects the quality of the services, their availability and also influences the cost of production. Therefore, an effective commodity and stores management system must be in place to ensure their accessibility and effective utilization. Through practical engagement, mentorship, and reflective practice, students develop industry-relevant technical competencies, professional ethics, customer service skills, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. The module also enhances students’ understanding of organisational operations, health and safety standards, quality assurance, sustainability practices, and workplace professionalism.  CAHC 401  Strategic Culinary and Hotel Catering Management  This is a capstone module in the Culinary Arts and Hotel Catering programme. This module equips students with skills and knowledge of culinary arts and hotel catering from the strategic apex to lower-level management. This module will equip the students with skills not only to prepare them for a professional job in any of the hotels, cruises or airlines, but also it equips them with relevant skills to start and run own businesses. Students are expected to design and innovate unique Zimbabwean cuisines. Such local cuisines will enable attraction of regional and international tourists and increase hotel profitability.
LHM 402 International Tourism Management International tourism management constitutes a detailed study of global travel and tourism trends in the major tourist regions in America, Europe, Africa, the Far East and the South Pacific regions. The focus on international tourism trends, tourism supply and demand situations, transportation, accommodation, tourist organisations and the challenges facing international tourism developments and future projections of tourism establishes a solid background for economic tourism studies. In that regard the module focuses on the link between strategic plans and human capital management functions within the context of tourism, leisure and hospitality operations. CAHC 303 Banqueting and Conferencing This module on Banqueting and Conferencing is a practical guide to enlighten students on coordinating the delivery of all food and beverages for functions to pre-arranged number of people. This module will equip students with skills and knowledge of managing Banquets and conferences and to deal with a variety of people including customers and workers. This module will equip students with management skills to identify hazards and assess risks followed by elimination of risks in the first instance or where this is not practicable, minimising those risks. The module equips students with knowledge covering menu engineering and service using locally available ingredients, operations in food and beverage management, design and management of food and beverage facilities, recipe development and modification, forecasting techniques, budgeting and ISO in food and beverage production and service. CAHC 470 Dissertation This dissertation module enables fourth-year undergraduate students to undertake an independent, supervised research study on a topic relevant to their field of study. The module consolidates students’ theoretical knowledge and research skills acquired throughout the programme by guiding them through the full research process, including problem identification, literature review, research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings. Emphasis is placed on academic rigour, ethical research conduct, critical thinking, and scholarly writing. The dissertation demonstrates the student’s ability to apply appropriate research methodologies, engage critically with existing literature, and contribute meaningfully to knowledge or practice within the discipline, while preparing students for postgraduate study and professional practice.
