Driving Innovation and Expanding Access to Healthcare in Zimbabwe

On 27 July 2026, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially commissioned two landmark projects: the University of Zimbabwe’s Industrial Incubation Centre in Msasa and the University of Zimbabwe Specialist Medical Centre in Avondale.
University of Zimbabwe Industrial Incubation Centre
This hub is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s Heritage-based Education 5.0 Philosophy, bridging academia and industry. It provides technical support, mentorship, and industrial collaboration for 11 start-up companies across agriculture, ICT, engineering, pharmaceuticals, health, transport, and energy. By transforming prototypes into market-ready products, the hub empowers young innovators to drive industrialisation and entrepreneurship.
University of Zimbabwe Specialist Medical Centre (Avondale)
The centre expands access to advanced healthcare services, including eye care, oral health, assisted reproduction (IVF), and trauma care. It also serves as a specialist training facility for medical students, ensuring Zimbabwe’s future doctors are equipped with modern skills and technologies. Importantly, it makes IVF and other specialist services more accessible to ordinary citizens at affordable rates, reducing reliance on foreign healthcare providers.
Together, these projects embody the government’s vision to “leave no one and no place behind”, strengthening innovation ecosystems while improving healthcare delivery. They represent a bold step by the University of Zimbabwe towards industrialisation, self-reliance, and inclusive growth.
