Prof. Sheunesu. Mpepereki 

Prof. Sheunesu. Mpepereki a full Professor of Soil Science, currently holds the Professorial Chair in the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe. His qualifications include a Science Teachers Diploma (1972), a first Class B.Sc. in Chemistry and Botany from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (1981), an MSc in Soil Science and Microbiology from North Carolina State University, USA (1988), and a Ph.D. in Soil Science from University of Zimbabwe (1994). Within 7 years of acquiring a doctorate in 1994, Prof Mpepereki rose through the ranks from lecturer to full professor by 2002, on the back of extensive scientific publications from his prolific research outputs in leading refereed journals.

He won several competitive research grants allowing his to engage and train numerous Masters and doctorate graduate students many of whom now hold key posts in academia, public and private sectors in Zimbabwe and the sub-region. Working closely with both private and public sector organizations his Soybean Research and Development Program saw both small scale and large scale resettled farmers benefiting from adoption of soybean through improved nutrition and farm incomes. Prof Mpepereki’s research programs featured collaboration with African and overseas partners and included soil fertility niches, legume biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), fate of Bt toxins in tropical soils, smallholder manure management, cyanobacteria and ecological biochemistry of pro-anthocyanidins. 
Prof Mpepereki has held many positions of responsibility both within and outside the university including as a department board chair, deputy Dean and Chairman of the UZ Research Board. He has been a member and chairperson of several public sector boards including the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), Agricultural Research Council of Zimbabwe, the Central Mechanical Equipment Department, (CMED Pvt Ltd), and Grain Marketing Board (GMB). 

As National Coordinator of the Soyabean Promotion Task Force Professor Sheunesu Mpepereki is credited with successfully integrating and popularizing soyabean as a food, soil improving and cash crop and Rhizobium Inoculant Technology as a cheap soil fertility intervention among Zimbabwe’s black farmers through a sustained dedicated program of applied research, stakeholder mobilization and farmer training. By working with and through value chain actors in both private and public sectors, Prof Mpepereki pioneered the innovation platform approach to conducting Integrated Agricultural Research for Development (IR4D).

Prof Mpepereki has received several distinguished achievement awards that include the Agricultural Sciences Career Fellowship (1995) and the Food security Career Fellowship 2002 from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Presidential Certificate of Distinction Award from the President of Zimbabwe in 2013. Prof Mpepereki has been Recognition as one of Africa’s top scientists came through winning the prestigious Impact Research & Science in Africa (IMPRESSA) Award (2010) sponsored by the AU, NEPAD, AGRA, FARA and Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Africa (RUFORUM). Outside academics, Prof Mpepereki is a practicing commercial farmer and an ardent Pan-Africanist concerned with science, language and culture in the development of African economies.

Prof. Mediel Hove

Mediel Hove is a Research Associate at the Durban University of Technology-South Africa and an Associate Professor of local and international conflicts, peacebuilding, Security and strategic studies in the History Department at the University of Zimbabwe.

He holds a PhD in Public Administration-Peacebuilding from Durban University of Technology (2016); Master of Arts in War and Strategic Studies (2007 and Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in History (2003) all from the University of Zimbabwe; Bachelor of Technology Education and Management (2001) from Technikon Pretoria-South Africa; -Diploma in Personnel Management (2003) from the Institute of Personnel Management of Zimbabwe;  Diploma in Education at Secondary Level- (1997) from Mutare Teachers College; Certificate of Security Sector Governance (2014) from the University of the Witwatersrand; Executive Certificate in Community Development and Humanitarian Project Management (2008) and Executive Certificate in Practical Monitoring and Evaluation of HIV&AIDS and Non-Profit Projects (2008) all from the UZ. 

He has published book chapters, articles and book reviews. Some of his recent articles and book reviews are published in: Journal of Aggression, Conflict and Peace Research, Journal of Asian and African Studies, International Journal of Human Rights and Constitutional Studies, African Security Review, Democracy and Security, Jadavpur Journal of International Relations, Conflict Studies Quarterly, Insight on Africa, Migration and Development, Politikon: South African Journal of Political Studies, SAGE Open, Contemporary Arab Affairs Journal, Stability: Journal of International Security and Development, Democratization, African Studies Quarterly, Journal of African Military History, Small Wars and Insurgencies, Journal of Arid Environments, Peace Education and African Security among others. He has co-edited a recently published book with Professor Geoffrey Harris entitled “Infrastructures for peace in sub-Saharan Africa.”

Prof. Rosemary Moyana - Pro Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs

Rosemary Moyana is Pro Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs at the University of Zimbabwe where she guides Faculties on the programmatic approach to academic business. She is an Associate Professor of English and former Dean of Education at the University of Zimbabwe. She holds four degrees, namely, DPhil (UZ); M.A. (Univ. of Zimbabwe); M.A. (West Chester, USA); B.A. and a Teaching Certificate (Lincoln Univ. USA).

Professor Moyana’s career started in the Teachers Colleges where she taught for 10 years from January 1977. She joined the University of Zimbabwe in January 1988 teaching Literature in English and English Pedagogy. She has participated successfully in national and international research projects such as the IEA Reading Literacy study whose output was an award winning book entitled, Reading Literacy at Junior Secondary School Level in Zimbabwe. From 2012 to 2017 she participated in Tuning Africa, an international research project focusing on competences in education and harmonisation of university education. For this project output Professor Moyana contributed to its Phase I publication; contributed and co-edited the Phase II publication of 2018 entitled, Design and Implementation of Degree Programmes in Teacher Education Phase II. She also received a Tuning Certificate of Participation for successfully completing an online course on “design for outcomes based learning in higher education,” in 2016. Prof Moyana has over 30 publications in Literature and English pedagogy. She has two daughters and two granddaughters.

 

Professor Marvellous Mhloyi

Professor Mhloyi is a renowned global, regional and national Demographer. She joined the University of Zimbabwe in 1984. Prof Mhloyi is the Founder of Demography Teaching and Department of Population Studies at the University of Zimbabwe. She has vast experience in teaching all Demography courses. She has contributed to policy and programme formulation, implementation and monitoring through research which she undertook at international, regional and national levels. She has served in various boards which include inter alia: WHO Task Force of the Scientific and Ethical Review Committee; The Zimbabwe Post and Telecommunications Board of Directors; The Research Council of Zimbabwe; The Social Science Committee of the Research Council of Zimbabwe; Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education; and The National University of Science and Technology. Prof Mhloyi is a recipient of the following famous awards and honours: Distinguished Alumni Award, West Chester University Alumni Association. West Chester, Pennsylvania (1992); Bernard Berelson Mid-career Research Award, The Population Council, New York (1991); .Fulbright Professional Development Award, and The McArthur Fellowship of the Harvard Center for the Population and Development Studies (1991); The Population Council Scholarship Award, University of Pennsylvania (1983); The Rockfeller Scholarship Award, University of Pennsylvania (1980); Summa Cum Laude, BSc. West Chester State College, Pennsylvania (1980); Black student's Best Student Academic Award, West Chester State College (1980); The International WHO's WHO of Women (1993); WHO's WHO in Women in Europe (1992); Kappa Delta Pi, Honours Society for Geographers (1979); and, Pi Gamma Mu, Honours Society for Social Scientists (1979). The following are Prof Mhloyi’s academic qualifications: Ph.D. Demography (University of Pennsylvania); M.A. Demography (University of Pennsylvania); B.Sc.
