| Module Code | Module Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| EDU504 | Curriculum Development, Innovation and Industrialisation | The module covers curriculum innovation and industrialisation models and approaches. In-depth theoretical, ethical principles and criteria underpinning curriculum modification, industrialisation and curriculum management of learners in a changing world will be explored. The topics to be covered include; the concept curriculum, elements of the curriculum, foundations of the curriculum, curriculum planning models, curriculum development process, curriculum design, curriculum implementation models and strategies, curriculum change and innovation and curriculum evaluation. The module aims at producing professionals who will contribute meaningfully to curriculum design and development. |
| EDU505 | Advanced Tools for Educational Research | The module provides students with grounding in the Philosophy of Science as a foundation and equips them with advanced knowledge in educational research. It provides them with concepts and skills in statistics and capacity to use current computer packages such as SPSS and NVIVO to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data. Overall, the research module should prepare students with adequate knowledge and skills that enable them to embark on local and international research in the visual arts that informs policy and practice. |
| EEDU506 | Philosophy of Science | Conceptualisation of sciences and the development of scientific thinking among learners is important in successfully driving the economy of any nation today and for the achievement of national development goals. The module focuses on curricula and pedagogies that are true to the nature of sciences, consistent with desired educational aims and align with developmentally appropriate practices in the education of young learners. Emphasis will be placed on a framework for the natural sciences which includes principles of inquiry, problem- solving activities and teaching practices that link sciences to society and the physical environment. |

Graduate Painting Studio |
Painting provides a practical, sensual and spiritual experience. This module takes an open-air approach where students explore self-expression and imagination through experimenting with concepts of space, movement and object study. In this endeavor, it is therefore compulsory for every student to keep an on-going sketchbook as a personal record. The module is characterized by intensive studies of traditional ways of expression through extended study of forms, and artistic painting. Reference will be made to art historical epochs and movements as well as contemporary practices in painting. Issues articulated in the module include composition and construction, colour and abstract order, the illustration of space, the poetic and symbolic sense and the relationship between aesthetics and ethics. The ultimate aim of the module is for students to produce visual art forms e.g paintings, sculpture that serve an aesthetic function in society. |

Graduate Drawing Studio |
This graduate studio module encourages the student to explore issues and problems regarding drawing as a central discipline in fine arts practice. This is done through extended analysis and experimentations with the traditions, conventions and techniques of drawing as a graphic visual language. Development of the module is through a series of themes designed to enable the student to develop high level drawing skills in the context of modern, post-modern, post-colonial and other critical dimensions. Drawing solutions will be in response to issues and concerns at individual and societal levels. |

Advanced Fabric Design and Textile Technology |
This is an advanced practical studio module intended to expose graduate students to craft and design knowledge and expertise in textile and fabric surface design, and technical and professional standards. The module focuses on the application of selected processes and techniques in the production of dynamic and innovative designs for functional, expressive, decorative or avant-garde purposes. At this level the student is expected to have prior knowledge and experience with the textile and fabric art form, especially major traditions and movements such as The Arts and Crafts, the Bauhaus, japonisme, le art noveau, art decor and art moderne. Content in the module, therefore, encourages the student to select their own choice of media, materials and techniques in the execution of a wide range of concepts and problems covering traditional, ethnic, modern, postmodern as well as industrial and digital approaches. |

Sculpture and the environment |
This module provides students with dexterity and problem-solving skills through composition expressed through imagination and formal research and personal expression. Students will gain knowledge of spatial organization of the visual environment through mounting of creative public sculptures. Students will be exposed to a variety of sculpting methods, techniques and media such as weld-art and mixed media. They will experiment with media such as stone, metal, plastics and ceramics as they explore sculpture in contemporary spaces. The ultimate aim of the module is for students to respond to the environment in a sustainable way through visual design solutions. |

Capstone Exhibition |
This module is a display of a culmination of practical and curatorial skills acquired during the entire programme. The student is given a chance to curate an individual exhibition, advertise it for external audiences, mobilise resources, and organise for its official launch. The student is also expected to exhibit marketing skills of the artworks on display. Thus, the capstone exhibition is a display of the artistic direction that has been taken by the artist as an area of specialization with the aim to take visual art as an entrepreneurial endeavor. |
| MEAD570 | Dissertation | This is a practice-based research that exhibits the student’s knowledge and skills in the visual arts provided for in related institutions. It is the climax of the student’s ability to profer practical solutions and document them in diverse ways. Students will demonstrate use of experimental methodologies and epistemological practices extending and questioning the boundaries of studio practice and its relation to conventional and analytical research. |
