EDU504 Curriculum Development, Innovation and Industrialisation

Masters students will analyse the concept curriculum and the process and procedures in curriculum development and implementation. In the process, students will be assisted to realise and appreciate the need to come up with curriculum relevant to commerce and industry for sustainable national economic development.

EDU505 Philosophy of Science

Conceptualisation of sciences and the development of scientific thinking among young learners is important in successfully driving the economy of any nation today and for the achievement of national development goals.  The course content focuses on curricula and pedagogies that are true to the nature of sciences, consistent with desired educational aims and align with developmentally appropriate practices in the education of young learners. Emphasis will be placed on a frame work for the natural sciences which includes principles of inquiry, problem- solving activities and teaching practices that link sciences to society and the physical environment.

EDU506 Advanced Tools for Educational Research The module helps students appreciate that research, complimented by innovation and technology is an indispensable tool in education today- Education 5.0. It helps students consider viable/ effective strategies such as collaboration to employ research in teaching programmes

Music Technology  

This module exposes students to a variety of music hardware and software for purposes of composition, sound engineering, performance, marketing and distribution, promotion, branding and designing and teaching and learning. Some examples include MIDI, beat machines, Finale and Sibelius.

MEMP521

Music Theory

This module is for the development of students’ advanced knowledge and appreciation of music theory, harmony and counterpoint for the composition of art and contemporary music styles. Both manual and software applications will be used to expose and explore working rules of the elements of music within stylistic contexts. Students are expected to listen to and discuss music excerpts from different epochs taking note of stylistic changes and innovation. They will compose music in preferred styles.

Instrument Manufacture and or Repair

The module gives students hands on experience in manufacturing and repairing African and Western instruments.  Focus will be on Zimbabwean traditional instruments. Precision and attention to acoustical properties of materials will be studied through practical craftsmanship. Creation of employment is envisaged through this module. Ability to impart knowledge and skills in manufacturing and repairing of the instruments will be developed.

Music Entrepreneurship

The module will prepare students for engagement in modern music industry. It includes areas such as music production, marketing, promotion, distribution, branding and music rights.  As entrepreneurs, they will be able to develop problem-solving skills to generate employment as label and artist managers, ensemble and solo management, solo artists, promoters, advertisers, marketers or consultants. The students will be exposed to the educational value of entrepreneurship.

Music Performance

The module assists students develop exceptional performance skills in a variety of instruments including voice, solo, ensemble and recital. Performances in art music, choral, contemporary and traditional will be presented. Knowledge and skills in the teaching and learning of music performance in different contexts will be explored.

MEMP570 Dissertation The module provides a platform for students to administer research by applying advanced educational tools in research and development in order to apply innovative solutions to the developmental trajectory of the country

EDU504 Curriculum Development, Innovation and Industrialisation The module covers curriculum innovation and industrialisation models and approaches. In-depth theoretical, ethical principles and criteria underpinning curriculum modification, industrialisation and curriculum management of learners in a changing world will be explored. The topics to be covered include; the concept curriculum, elements of the curriculum, foundations of the curriculum, curriculum planning models, curriculum development process, curriculum design, curriculum implementation models and strategies, curriculum change and innovation and curriculum evaluation. The module aims at producing professionals who will contribute meaningfully to curriculum design and development.  
EDU505 Advanced Tools for Educational Research The module provides students with grounding in the Philosophy of Science as a foundation and equips them with advanced knowledge in educational research. It provides them with concepts and skills in statistics and capacity to use current computer packages such as SPSS and NVIVO to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data. Overall, the research module should prepare students with adequate knowledge and skills that enable them to embark on local and international research in the visual arts that informs policy and practice.

MESS511 Physical Education and Sport Management This module analyses and discusses the social and ethical issues, trends and government regulations and how each applies to physical education and sports management. It exposes the students to practical application and working knowledge of sports and sports-related activities and the components of fitness and wellness.
MESS521 Physical Education & Sport Psychology

This module enables students to apply psychological principles and practices to learning performance and associated human behaviour in sports and exercise. It also exposes students to how psychology influences performance and participation in sports

MESS522 Sport and Exercise Physiology This module exposes students to how the body functions during exercise and using scientific principles to allow the body to train better, perform better and recover quicker. Through this module students will be able to how the body responds and adapts to physical stress during and after sports and exercise. This understanding will enable them to effectively and efficiently apply exercise physiology principles
 MESS523  Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise  This is the module that will train students to analyse sport movements in order to minimize the risk of injury and improve sports performance. It encompasses the science concerned with analysis of mechanics of human movement. It helps students to understand and manage forces and their effects during sports and exercise.
 MESS524  Adaptive Physical Education and Sports  Through this module students will apply current principles and practices in physical education and sport for participants with disabilities and help them get the most out of their participation in sports. It gives the students increased emphasis on best practices and applications for successful inclusion in sports by the disabled.
 MESS570  Dissertation  This is a practice-based research that exhibits the student’s knowledge and skills in the in Sports and Exercises provided for in related institutions. It is the climax of the student’s ability to profer practical solutions and document them in diverse ways. Students will demonstrate use of experimental and practical methodologies.
